Who we are

Founded in 2024, JoyRide is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to improving community and individuals through access to bikes and biking infrastructure. Donations go to support trail building and maintenance, youth cycling, and improving bike infrastructure in our community. Join us in spreading joy through bikes!

We think that Bryan/College Station is a great community and is primed to be an exceptional cycling community. We have been fortunate to live and cycle in some world class locations and want to bring the best of those places to the Brazos Valley.

Why bikes?

Besides the fact that riding bikes is fun, there are many reasons to invest in bike infrastructure. Bicycling infrastructure makes communities better for everyone, even those that never ride a bike.

  • Think of bike lanes as an economic stimulus package that costs less than a highway.

    • Shopping Local Becomes Easier: Cyclists are fantastic customers! They can easily stop, browse, and spend money at small, local shops and restaurants. Studies show that businesses on streets with good bike infrastructure see a boost in retail sales.

    • Property Value Goes Up: People are willing to pay more to live in a connected, bike-friendly neighborhood. This means higher property values and more local tax revenue for the city.

    • Tourism is a Tailwind: Bike trails and routes are a huge draw for tourists. Investing in these facilities brings in visitors who spend money on hotels, food, and gear, fueling a new stream of local tourism revenue.

    • It’s Cheaper to Build: Putting in a protected bike lane is significantly less expensive than building or maintaining a car lane or parking garage. It's a high-return, low-cost infrastructure move.

    • Attracting Top Talent: Modern employees, especially younger workers, often prefer to live in cities with great options for active commuting. Good bike infrastructure helps companies attract and keep skilled people.

  • Bike infrastructure makes your city a safer and healthier place for everyone, not just cyclists.

    • Built-in Daily Exercise: When people feel safe biking, they do it more! Commuting by bike is a perfect, low-impact way to stay fit, leading to a healthier population overall.

    • Lower Healthcare Costs: More physical activity means fewer trips to the doctor for lifestyle diseases. Over time, the city and its employers see a reduction in healthcare costs.

    • Safety for Everyone: Protected bike lanes physically separate fast-moving cars from bikes and pedestrians. This simple act drastically reduces collisions and makes the entire street environment calmer and safer for drivers, walkers, and cyclists alike.

  • This is where investing in bikes helps solve those big urban problems we all face: traffic and pollution.

    • Less Traffic Jams: Every person who chooses a bike for a short trip is one less car adding to road congestion. Bike commuting is an effective way to manage traffic flow without expensive road widening.

    • Cleaner Air for All: Bicycles are zero-emission vehicles. Encouraging cycling directly improves air quality and helps the city hit its sustainability goals. Every bike ride is a tiny step in the fight against climate change.

    • Better Access for Everyone: A bike is a very affordable way to travel. Good bike networks connect people in all neighborhoods—including those underserved by public transit—to their jobs, schools, and essential services, increasing transportation equity.

    Certified PMBIA Instructor

Riding around St. Paul, Minnesota as a child, Dave discovered the freedom of cycling leading to a life long love. He was a member of the University of Colorado cycling team and spent more time on the western slope riding mountain bikes than he did in class. In 2011, he drove a support vehicle for his father and Team Type 2 in the Ride Across America.

Dave has served as the President of the Brazos Valley Mountain Biker’s Association since 2023. In 2025 Dave received his Instructor certification from the PMBIA.

Kali grew up in Texas and started her biking journey out being pulled by her parents in a Burley trailer. She would have been happy to have people continue to pull her around, but eventually she had to ride her own bike and discovered she loved that too. After moving to Colorado in 2008 she started mountain biking around the mountain west. Despite a rocky start, she persevered and discovered that she really loves mellow, flowy trails.
